The story began back in 1996, when Demetree and Jacob met during their 2nd year of college. They learned some tough lessons about the importance of group selection in their first year, and decided to team up and rectify mistakes of the past. There was an immediate working chemistry, and they continued through college graduating with honours, proving their tandem efforts were a success. After college, Demetree and Jacob remained close friends and worked at a number of separate companies, crossing paths to work at the same company on more than one occasion.
About 10 years later, Demetree, unimpressed with many of the packaged platform solutions and armed with a massive amount of design and development experience, endeavoured to build a platform of his own. This proved more ambitious than was achievable at the time, and after a couple of years the project was shelved. It remained collecting dust until 2009 when Jacob & Demetree were getting exposure to the tsunami of opportunity that was flowing in from the mobile space. The real tipping point was the release of the iPhone which was really shaking the industry up.
In 2010, Demetree restarted his ambitious platform passion project with some lessons learned, and a renewed vigour from the emerging mobile space. He engaged Jacob as a technical advisor to debate design options and philosophize the future of the platform. That was the dawn of K2 Research where Demetree and Jacob collaborate to solve real world problems with mobile technology.
